2022

Loukas Ziaras

Jesus Christ as Parable of God. Images and Media Between God and Man

Advisor: Dr. Athanasios Antonopoulos, Ass. Professor at the School of Theology of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

A digital project based on Mr. Loukas Ziaras’ undergraduate course work at the Department of Social Theology and the Study of Religion of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens/School of Theology.

This video was created in the context of the undergraduate course New Testament, Judaism and the Greco-Roman World that is taught by Dr, Athanasios Antonopoulos, Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Theology and Religion. Focusing on the Parables of Jesus Christ as a case study, along with the assistance of Dr. Sotirios Despotis, Professor at the Department of Social Theology and the Study of Religion and Mrs. Olympias Kelaidi, Laboratory Teaching Staff (EDIP) at the Highest School of Fine Arts in Athens, we try to explore the ways of how parables, as means of mediation and communication, create the connection between God and man and how this connection is interpreted in modern society and its culture. Along with the identification of their fundamental principles and using examples of modern visual creation and advertising communication, we approach the parables as media of visual communication and dialogue between God and man. Moreover, this video creation focuses on the following issues: 1. The Parable between ancient Greek myth and Jewish allegory 2. Why does Jesus teach in parables? What are the parables’ main characteristics? 3. Using the artworks of Vincent Willem van Gogh, Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn and Olympiada Kelaidi, we approach artistic creations, advertisement or signs as media in our modern cultural environment. 4. Could this video function as a modern parable to Jesus’ parables or as a medium of modern communication in the dialogue between media and theology?

2019

V. Rev. Ioannis-Georgios Peristeridis

Web and Geographic Presentation of New Testament Events.

Application to the Churches founded by Apostle Paul

A digital project based on Fr. John Peristeridis’ Master Thesis at Hellenic Open University (2019).

Advisor: Dr. Athanasios Antonopoulos, Ass. Professor at the School of Theology of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and Adjunct Faculty Member at Hellenic Open University.

Spatial information derived from the New Testament texts using the Geographical Information Systems is presented in our thesis. Through this application, the spatial information included in the text of the New Testament, such as locations and distances, becomes easier to understand. The digital and internet maps created contain descriptive and religious information and can be displayed on both computers and mobile phones, which makes it easier to use. Using interactive means one can easily find a specific location from a mobile or computer through a special program and have access to instant information through pop-up windows. Furthermore, we are offered the ability to present the historical and geographical evolution of the events of the New Testament through a special application. Because the spatial and historical information of the New Testament has a great extent, the presentation of the Churches founded by Apostle Paul is offered through his missionary tours.
